New Rehabilitation Unit Opens in Rossendale

Each Other Care is proud to introduce a dedicated residential unit designed specifically for adults under 65 - a vibrant community where rehabilitation, independence and personal growth are supported and championed. Our purpose-built shared home community is a supportive and engaging environment, empowering younger residents to rediscover their strengths, achieve goals, and lead fulfilling lives with tailored care and rehabilitation at the core.

Younger adults in need of rehabilitation are often placed in settings that do not fully support their stage of life, leading to isolation or a loss of identity. The new under 65 unit offers an alternative where rehabilitation and rediscovery will go hand in hand. The focus is on creating a place where residents feel valued, supported and encouraged to explore opportunities beyond their care needs.

The 24-bedroom unit welcomes adults aged 18-65 who require care due to neurological conditions, brain injuries, or life-changing illnesses such as cancer or MS. With a specialist rehabilitation team in place, residents will receive structured daily therapy, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language support. Cognitive retraining will help rebuild essential skills, from motor function recovery to managing daily tasks like budgeting and financial planning.

The purpose of the unit is to provide autonomy, independence and meaningful engagement. Residents will be supported to shape their own routines, explore personal interests and take part in education, volunteering and community life. Whether accessing college courses, joining support groups such as Headway, or taking part in creative therapies, the focus is on encouraging each person to take an active role in their own future.

The unit also prioritises physical and social wellbeing, helping residents access local gyms, swimming pools and leisure centres. With the home’s onsite minibus, transport is available for learning opportunities, social outings and activities that support building confidence and creating relationships with the community.

Alongside rehabilitation, the unit will also provide short-term respite care, with dedicated beds available for individuals whose families or caregivers need a break. This allows loved ones to plan time off while knowing that their family member is in a safe and supportive environment with access to specialist rehabilitation.

“This unit is about creating a home where younger adults can thrive,” says Unit Manager Janet Aspden. “For some, that might mean regaining mobility, for others, it could be continuing their education or simply feeling part of a community again. Whatever their journey, we’re here to support them in moving forward.”

Located on the grounds of Highfield Hall Care Home, the new rehabilitation unit operates as a separate, dedicated service designed specifically for younger adults. The unit is well placed to welcome residents from Rossendale as well as Manchester, Bury, Oldham, Blackburn and surrounding areas.
