Bill’s fishing adventures in Yorkshire
Fishing has always been a special part of Bill’s life. At 90, he’s still full of adventure and when we asked if he’d like to go on a fishing trip, he jumped at the chance.
When the day arrived, excitement spread through The Abbeys and Bill proudly packed his fishing rod onto the mini-bus, ready to do what he loves most - sitting at the water’s edge, patiently waiting for a catch.
A great day out fishing for Bill.
Throughout the day, we did just that. Bill shared fond memories of past fishing adventures which his daughter Diane also recalled recently. We learnt of the trip with friends where they decided to live off the land and his adventures with his children; particularly his eldest Brian who used to join him for regular fishing trips.
These stories brought a sense of joy for Bill, reminding him of the special moments he’s had over the years. As we spent time together, Bill shared his fishing tips and stories, teaching us along the way. It was a wonderful experience for all of us, learning from him and enjoying something he truly cares about.
At The Abbeys, we create opportunities like this through our one-on-one trips. If a resident has a passion, we do our best to make it happen. It’s not just about the activity, but about connecting with what they enjoy most. We focus on creating a warm, supportive environment where our residents can continue to enjoy the things they love, surrounded by people who care.
