Ladyville’s adventure to Hever Castle

We’re always looking for a new adventure and when one of our residents requested a trip to Hever Castle, we were delighted to start planning. This trip was a special moment for the home, marking the longest journey in our minibus to date. It was a day filled with anticipation, wonder and intrigue. The gardens of the castle were famously the childhood home of Anne Boleyn and provided the backdrop to a wonderful day of learning and fun.

Setting off!

As with all excursions at Ladyville, the journey itself was part of the adventure. The group crossed the Dartford Bridge and through the beautiful Kent countryside, driving through rolling hills, past thatched cottages and Tudor buildings. This provided the perfect opportunity to reminisce and talk about tales form trips from times gone by.

Before William Waldorf Astor purchased Hever Castle in 1903, there was only a modest garden surrounded the castle walls. Today, thanks to his remarkable efforts and the work of the gardening team, who uncovered long-forgotten parts of the grounds, the garden gave our residents many magnificent areas to marvel. From the Italian garden, with long sweeping lawns and tall clipped yew hedges, to the Rose Garden with five thousand romantic quintessential English roses, planted in blocks of colour from palest pink to deep crimson and rich purple, we took time to delight our senses and appreciate the fresh air and nature around us.

Enjoying the gardens.

The beauty of the day captivated one resident so much that she was brought to tears by the gardens. She joins Dame Judi Dench in the castles long list of admirers, who launched Hever Castle’s very own rose in 2011.

This trip reflected how we live our values of being positive and light-hearted, creating relationships and being there for each other every day. Here at Ladyville, we give our residents experiences that bring joy, connection and meaning to their lives. It was a day to remember for everyone.
